It figures to be a low-scoring affair when the No. 10 Tennessee Volunteers (19-6, 8-4 SEC) host the No. 1 Alabama Crimson Tide (22-3, 12-0 SEC) on Wednesday.
Alabama beat the Auburn Tigers 77-69 at Neville Arena on Saturday, their fourth win in a row. Rylan Griffen had a standout performance with 16 points.
The Crimson Tide are first in the Southeastern Conference. Tennessee dropped a close one on Saturday at Thompson-Boling Arena, falling to the Missouri Tigers 86-85. Tyreke Key had 23 points and six rebounds in the losing effort, leading the team.
The Volunteers remain third in the Southeastern Conference.This is the only meeting of the season between the teams. Alabama triumphed in the only game between the teams last season 73-68 at Coleman Coliseum in December 2021, their third straight head-to-head victory.
Noah Gurley led the Crimson Tide with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Olivier Nkamhoua had 15 points in defeat. Brandon Miller is averaging 18.8 points per game to lead the Crimson Tide in scoring this season. Miller also has grabbed 8.2 rebounds per game. Meanwhile, Jaden Bradley is dishing 3.4 assists.
Zakai Zeigler (10.8 ppg), Santiago Vescovi (10.7), and Nkamhoua (10.7) have supplied much of the Volunteers’ offense. Nkamhoua also has posted 5.0 rebounds per game, while Zeigler has distributed 5.4 assists per game.
The Volunteers and the Crimson Tide rank as two of the strongest defenses in the NCAA, first and 12th in defensive efficiency, respectively. Alabama is 9-1 in the last 10 games with an average margin of +17.0 (84.2-67.2).
Tennessee has a 6-4 record over the last 10, scoring 68.2 points per game on average while allowing 62.0 (+6.2 margin). The Volunteers are averaging 72.5 ppg for the full season while allowing 56.3.
