Two teams headed in opposite directions square off on Saturday as the No. 24 TCU Horned Frogs (7-1) will be looking to build on their winning streak when they head to face the floundering SMU Mustangs (3-6). TCU dismantled the Jackson State Tigers 78-51 at Ed & Rae Schollmaier Arena on Tuesday, their fifth win in a row.
With 21 points, seven rebounds, and three blocks, JaKobe Coles had a standout performance. SMU lost their third in a row in blowout fashion on Wednesday at Moody Coliseum, falling to the Arizona State Sun Devils 75-57.
Zhuric Phelps topped the scoresheet in defeat with 19 points. The Horned Frogs took the last meeting between the teams 67-59 at Moody Coliseum in December 2018. The Horned Frogs have been led this season by Mike Miles Jr. (11.4 ppg), Micah Peavy (10.0), and Chuck O’Bannon Jr. (9.9).
Meanwhile, Eddie Lampkin Jr. is grabbing 7.3 rebounds per game, and Shahada Wells is dishing 4.1 assists. Phelps (19.6 ppg) has powered the Mustangs’ offense. Phelps also has distributed 2.7 assists per game. Efe Odigie has pulled down 8.7 rebounds per game.
