The UC Irvine Anteaters (6-1), one of the nation’s top scoring defenses, head to face the No. 24 San Diego State Aztecs (4-2) on Tuesday.UC Irvine topped the New Mexico State Aggies 85-68 at Orleans Arena on Saturday, their third win in a row. DJ Davis had a standout performance with 25 points.
San Diego State dropped their last game on Wednesday at Lahaina Civic Center, falling to the Arkansas Razorbacks 78-74. Matt Bradley had 23 points and seven rebounds in defeat, leading the team. The Aztecs triumphed in the last meeting between the teams 77-58 at Viejas Arena at Aztec Bowl in November 2020.
Keshad Johnson led the Aztecs with 14 points. Brad Greene had 11 points and three assists in defeat. The Anteaters have been led this season by Davis and Dawson Baker, who are averaging 15.0 and 13.4 points per game, respectively.
Meanwhile, Bent Leuchten is grabbing 7.3 rebounds per game, and Pierre Crockrell II is dishing 5.6 assists. Darrion Trammell has been the primary provider for the Aztecs on offense, averaging 14.2 points per game.
Nathan Mensah is averaging 6.3 rebounds per game, and Lamont Butler is doling out 3.3 assists.Holding opponents to 58.9 points per game, the Anteaters are one of the top scoring defenses in the country (27th).
