The New Mexico Lobos (15-2, 2-2 MWC), one of the NCAA’s top scoring teams, are on the road to face the No. 23 San Diego State Aztecs (13-3, 4-0 MWC) on Saturday. New Mexico beat the Oral Roberts Golden Eagles 82-75 at The Pit on Monday.
With 24 points, Jamal Mashburn Jr. was the scoring leader. Josiah Allick chipped in with 15 points and 13 rebounds. San Diego State won their sixth in a row on Tuesday at Viejas Arena at Aztec Bowl, beating the Nevada Wolf Pack 74-65. Matt Bradley led the team in scoring with 17 points.
With 11 points, Keshad Johnson also had an impressive game. The Aztecs remain first in the Mountain West Conference. It’s the only meeting of the season between the teams. San Diego State won the only matchup between the teams last season 72-47 at Viejas Arena at Aztec Bowl in January 2022, their third straight head-to-head victory. Johnson led the Aztecs with 14 points and 10 rebounds.
KJ Jenkins had 16 points and nine rebounds in the loss. The Lobos have been led this season by Mashburn Jr. (17.9 ppg), Jaelen House (16.6), and Morris Udeze (16.0). House also has dished 4.8 assists per game. Meanwhile, Allick is grabbing 8.2 rebounds per game.
Bradley (13.5 ppg) has powered the Aztecs on offense. Nathan Mensah is averaging 6.1 rebounds per game, and Darrion Trammell is recording 3.6 assists. The Lobos are averaging 82.6 points per game, ranking as one of the top scoring offenses in the country (16th). New Mexico is 8-2 in the last 10 games with an average margin of +11.5 (82.9-71.4).
San Diego State has gone 9-1 over the last 10, scoring 73.9 points per game on average while allowing 61.1 (+12.8 margin). The Aztecs are averaging 75.4 ppg for the full season while allowing 65.4.
