The Nevada Wolf Pack (14-3, 4-0 MWC), one of the top shooting defenses in the Mountain West Conference, are on the road to face the No. 23 San Diego State Aztecs (12-3, 3-0 MWC) on Tuesday.
Nevada outplayed the San Jose State Spartans 67-40 at Provident Credit Union Event Center on Saturday, their sixth consecutive win. Nick Davidson was the standout player with 15 points and nine rebounds.
The Wolf Pack slipped to second in the Mountain West Conference.San Diego State won their fifth in a row on Saturday at Arena-Auditorium, beating the Wyoming Cowboys 80-75. Lamont Butler had 23 points, leading the team. The Aztecs remain first in the Mountain West Conference.
The teams are meeting for the only time this season. San Diego State won both games between the teams last season, the last of which was a 79-78 triumph at Lawlor Events Center in March 2022, their eighth straight head-to-head victory.
Grant Sherfield topped all players in scoring with 30 points and seven assists in the loss. Matt Bradley had 24 points and six rebounds for the Aztecs.
The Wolf Pack have been led this season by Jarod Lucas, who is averaging 17.0 points per game. Meanwhile, Darrion Williams is grabbing 7.3 rebounds per game, and Kenan Blackshear is dishing 4.8 assists.
Bradley (13.3 ppg) and Darrion Trammell (11.7) have been the primary providers of the Aztecs’ offense. Trammell also has doled out 3.5 assists per game.
Nathan Mensah has pulled down 6.1 rebounds per game.The Wolf Pack rank as one of the toughest FG% defenses in the MWC, holding foes to to a second-lowest rate of 39.7%.
