The New Orleans Privateers (2-7) will try to overcome one of the NCAA’s top shooting defenses when they travel to face the No. 1 Purdue Boilermakers (11-0, 2-0 Big 10) on Wednesday.
New Orleans was dominated by the Boise State Broncos 91-50 at ExtraMile Arena on December 13, their fourth straight loss. Jordan Johnson was the key player in the loss with 14 points and seven rebounds.
Purdue won their 11th in a row on Saturday at Gainbridge Fieldhouse, beating the Davidson Wildcats 69-61. Zach Edey had 29 points and 16 rebounds, carrying the team. The Privateers have been led this season by Johnson and Khaleb Wilson-Rouse, who are averaging 12.9 and 12.0 points per game, respectively.
Wilson-Rouse also has grabbed 4.8 rebounds per game, while Johnson has dished 3.3 assists per game. Edey’s 22.6 points per game have powered the Boilermakers on offense. He ranks as the third-highest scorer in the country. Edey also has posted 13.9 rebounds per game, most in the NCAA.
Braden Smith has tallied 3.6 assists per game.The Boilermakers are holding foes to one of the country’s worst FG%, ranking 30th at 38.6%. Purdue has won each of the last 10 as part of the team’s 11-game win streak, scoring 76.4 points per game on average while holding opponents to 63.2 (+13.2 margin).
