The No. 10 Marquette Golden Eagles (22-6, 14-3 Big East), one of the country’s top scoring teams, welcome the DePaul Blue Demons (9-19, 3-14 Big East) on Saturday. DePaul was narrowly defeated by the Butler Bulldogs 59-58 at Wintrust Arena on Wednesday, their ninth loss in a row.
Umoja Gibson was the key player in the loss with 25 points. The Blue Demons remain 10th in the Big East Conference. Marquette won their third in a row in a close one on Tuesday at CHI Health Center Omaha, beating the Creighton Bluejays 73-71.
Kam Jones topped the scoresheet with 19 points. With 18 points, Oso Ighodaro also impressed. The Golden Eagles are first in the Big East Conference.
It’s the last meeting of the season between the teams. After winning the only previous season matchup against DePaul 89-69 at Wintrust Arena on January 28, Marquette will be aiming for a season sweep. David Joplin led the Golden Eagles with 28 points, while Tyler Kolek contributed 24 points, 10 assists, and nine rebounds. Gibson had 25 points in defeat.
The Blue Demons have been led this season by Gibson and Javan Johnson, who are averaging 16.5 and 14.5 points per game, respectively. Gibson also has dished 4.6 assists per game. Meanwhile, Eral Penn is grabbing 7.2 rebounds per game.
Jones has powered the Golden Eagles on offense, averaging 15.0 points per game. Kolek is recording 7.6 assists per game, second-most in the nation, and Ighodaro is pulling down 6.0 rebounds per game.
