The floundering No. 9 Kansas Jayhawks (16-4, 5-3 Big 12) head to face the Kentucky Wildcats (14-6, 5-3 SEC), who will be out to extend their winning run, on Saturday. Kansas lost to the Baylor Bears 75-69 at Ferrell Center on Monday, their third consecutive loss.
Gradey Dick was the key player in the losing effort with 24 points. The Jayhawks dropped to sixth in the Big 12 Conference. Kentucky won their fourth in a row on Tuesday at Memorial Gym, beating the Vanderbilt Commodores 69-53.
Antonio Reeves tallied 16 points to lead the team in scoring. With 15 points and 13 rebounds, Oscar Tshiebwe also impressed. The Wildcats fell to sixth in the Southeastern Conference.The teams are meeting for the only time this season.
Kentucky won the only matchup between the teams last season 80-62 at Allen Fieldhouse in January 2022. Keion Brooks Jr. led the Wildcats with 27 points and eight rebounds.
Christian Braun had 13 points in the loss.The Jayhawks have been led this season by Jalen Wilson, who is averaging 21.4 points per game, 10th-highest in the nation. Wilson also has grabbed 8.6 rebounds per game.
Meanwhile, Dajuan Harris Jr. is dishing 6.5 assists.Tshiebwe (14.9 ppg) and Reeves (12.9) have powered the Wildcats on offense. Tshiebwe also has posted 12.6 rebounds per game, most in the nation. Sahvir Wheeler has doled out 5.3 assists per game.
Kansas is 7-3 in the last 10 games with an average margin of +3.1 (72.4-69.3). Kentucky has also a 7-3 record over the last 10, scoring 73.6 points per game on average while allowing 68.7 (+4.9 margin).
