The No. 10 Texas Longhorns (18-4, 7-2 Big 12), one of the nation’s top scoring teams, travel to face the No. 7 Kansas State Wildcats (18-4, 6-3 Big 12) on Saturday.
Texas defeated the Baylor Bears 76-71 at Moody Center on Monday. Sir’Jabari Rice was the leading scorer with 21 points. Timmy Allen chipped in with 18 points. The Longhorns are first in the Big 12 Conference.
Kansas State dropped their last game on Tuesday at Allen Fieldhouse, falling to the Kansas Jayhawks 90-78. Markquis Nowell had 23 points in the losing effort, leading the team. The Wildcats slipped to fourth in the Big 12 Conference. The teams are meeting for the final time this season.
After taking the only earlier season game against Texas 116-103 at Moody Center on January 3, Kansas State will be looking for a season sweep. Nowell led the Wildcats with 36 points and nine assists. Tyrese Hunter had 29 points in the losing effort. Marcus Carr is averaging 16.7 points per game to lead the Longhorns in scoring this season. Carr also has dished 4.0 assists per game.
Meanwhile, Allen is grabbing 5.2 rebounds. Keyontae Johnson (18.2 ppg) and Nowell (17.1) have powered the Wildcats on offense. Johnson also has pulled down 7.9 rebounds per game, while Nowell has distributed 8.0 assists per game, second-most in the NCAA.
The Longhorns are averaging 79.9 points per game, ranking as one of the top scoring offenses in the nation (26th). The Longhorns have had the advantage in recent trips to Fred Bramlage Coliseum, winning six of the last 10.
In the last 10 games, Texas is 7-3 with an average margin of +0.9 (75.2-74.3). For the season, the Longhorns are averaging 79.9 points per game, compared to 67.7 for opponents.
