The Texas Tech Red Raiders (16-13, 5-11 Big 12) will try to slow down one of the top shooting teams in the Big 12 Conference when they head to face the No. 3 Kansas Jayhawks (24-5, 12-4 Big 12) on Tuesday.
Texas Tech was narrowly beaten by the TCU Horned Frogs 83-82 at United Supermarkets Arena on Saturday. Fardaws Aimaq was the scoring leader in the losing effort with 19 points.
Kevin Obanor was another standout performer with 17 points and nine rebounds. The Red Raiders remain ninth in the Big 12 Conference.
Kansas won their sixth in a row in a close one on Saturday at Allen Fieldhouse, beating the West Virginia Mountaineers 76-74. Dajuan Harris Jr. had 17 points, six assists, and six steals, carrying the team. The Jayhawks are first in the Big 12 Conference.
The teams are meeting for the last time this season. Kansas will be seeking a season sweep against Texas Tech after earning the win in the only earlier game 75-72 at United Supermarkets Arena on January 3, their third straight head-to-head victory. Obanor topped all players in scoring with 26 points and seven rebounds in defeat.
Harris Jr. had 18 points for the Jayhawks. Obanor and De’Vion Harmon, averaging 14.8 and 13.7 points per game, respectively, have led the Red Raiders in scoring this season. Obanor also has grabbed 6.5 rebounds per game, while Harmon has dished 3.6 assists per game.
Jalen Wilson’s 19.6 points per game have powered the Jayhawks on offense. Wilson also has pulled down 8.4 rebounds per game. Harris Jr. has recorded 6.3 assists per game. The Jayhawks are one of the Big 12’s most accurate teams from the field, ranking second at 47.0%.
The Red Raiders have struggled in recent games at Allen Fieldhouse, losing nine of the last 10. Texas Tech is 6-4 in the last 10 games with an average margin of -0.3 (72.6-72.9).
