The North Dakota Fighting Hawks (5-3) will try to overcome one of the NCAA’s top scoring defenses when they are on the road to face the No. 23 Iowa State Cyclones (5-1) on Wednesday. North Dakota beat the Cal State Fullerton Titans 73-57 at Betty Engelstad Sioux Center on Sunday, their third straight win.
With 18 points and eight rebounds, Tsotne Tsartsidze was the standout player. Iowa State lost in blowout fashion on Sunday at Moda Center at the Rose Quarter, falling to the UConn Huskies 71-53. Osun Osunniyi had 14 points in the loss to lead the team.
The Cyclones won the last meeting between the teams 83-52 at James H. Hilton Coliseum in December 2009.The Fighting Hawks have been led this season by B.J. Omot, who is averaging 12.6 points per game. Meanwhile, Elijah Brooks is grabbing 4.8 rebounds per game, and Jalun Trent is dishing 3.6 assists.
Jaren Holmes (16.7 ppg) has powered the Cyclones’ offense. Holmes also has tallied 4.0 assists per game. Aljaz Kunc has averaged 6.3 rebounds per game. The Cyclones are holding opponents to 58.3 points per game, ranking as one of the top scoring defenses in the nation (25th).
