The No. 13 Iowa State Cyclones (15-6, 6-3 Big 12), one of the country’s top scoring defenses, play host to the No. 8 Kansas Jayhawks (18-4, 6-3 Big 12) on Saturday. Kansas defeated the Kansas State Wildcats 90-78 at Allen Fieldhouse on Tuesday. Jalen Wilson was the top scorer with 20 points.
Kevin McCullar Jr. chipped in with 16 points and 13 rebounds. The Jayhawks fell to third in the Big 12 Conference. Iowa State lost a close one on Monday at United Supermarkets Arena, falling to the Texas Tech Red Raiders 80-77 in overtime. Caleb Grill had 24 points in the losing effort, leading the team.
The Cyclones slipped to fifth in the Big 12 Conference.This is the last meeting of the season between the teams. Kansas will be aiming for a season sweep against Iowa State after taking the only prior matchup 62-60 at Allen Fieldhouse on January 14, their seventh straight head-to-head victory.
Gradey Dick led the Jayhawks with 21 points. Gabe Kalscheur had 23 points and six rebounds in defeat. The Jayhawks have been led this season by Wilson, who is averaging 21.3 points per game. Wilson also has grabbed 8.5 rebounds per game. Meanwhile, Dajuan Harris Jr. is dishing 6.3 assists.
Jaren Holmes and Kalscheur have been the primary providers for the Cyclones on offense, averaging 13.5 and 13.4 points per game, respectively. Osun Osunniyi is posting 4.0 rebounds per game, and Tamin Lipsey is distributing 4.8 assists.
