The Nebraska Cornhuskers (6-3) get their Big Ten Conference schedule underway against the No. 14 Indiana Hoosiers (7-1, 0-1 Big 10) at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall on Wednesday. Nebraska topped the Creighton Bluejays 63-53 at CHI Health Center Omaha on Sunday, their third win in a row.
Derrick Walker was the leading scorer with 22 points. Sam Griesel was another key contributor with 18 points, 12 rebounds, and seven assists. Indiana dropped their last game on Saturday at Jersey Mike’s Arena, falling to the Rutgers Scarlet Knights 63-48. Miller Kopp had 21 points in the loss to lead the team.
The teams are meeting for the only time this season. Indiana won both matchups between the teams last season, the last of which was a 78-71 triumph at Pinnacle Bank Arena on January 17, their sixth straight head-to-head victory. Trayce Jackson-Davis led the Hoosiers with 23 points and 12 rebounds.
Bryce McGowens had 20 points in the loss. Griesel (11.3 ppg), Keisei Tominaga (10.7), and Juwan Gary (10.3) are leading the Cornhuskers in scoring this season. Gary also has grabbed 6.4 rebounds per game, while Griesel has dished 4.9 assists per game. Jackson-Davis (16.0 ppg) has been the primary provider of the Hoosiers’ offense.
Jackson-Davis also has collected 7.5 rebounds per game. Xavier Johnson has distributed 4.6 assists per game.With 82.3 points per game, the Hoosiers are one of the top scoring offenses in the NCAA (30th).
