The No. 3 Houston Cougars (3-0) will be out to prolong their winning run when they host the Texas Southern Tigers (1-2) on Wednesday. Texas Southern narrowly defeated the Arizona State Sun Devils 67-66 at Health & PE Center on Sunday.
PJ Henry had a standout performance with 22 points. Houston won their third in a row in dominating fashion on Monday at Fertitta Center, beating the Oral Roberts Golden Eagles 83-45. Tramon Mark had 23 points, leading the team.
The Cougars triumphed in the last meeting between the teams 78-75 at Fertitta Center in December 2012. The Tigers have been led so far this season by Henry and John Walker III, who are averaging 14.3 and 13.3 points per game, respectively.
Henry also has dished 1.7 assists per game. Meanwhile, Joirdon Karl Nicholas is grabbing 7.0 rebounds per game. Marcus Sasser (15.7 ppg) and Mark (13.7) have supplied much of the Cougars’ offense. Jarace Walker is posting 7.7 rebounds per game, and Jamal Shead is tallying 6.7 assists.
