The No. 14 Gonzaga Bulldogs (5-2) are on the road to face the No. 6 Baylor Bears (5-2) Friday in what should be a shootout. Gonzaga beat the Xavier Musketeers 88-84 at Veterans Memorial Coliseum on Sunday. Julian Strawther led the way with 23 points and nine rebounds.
Baylor lost in blowout fashion on Tuesday at Fiserv Forum, falling to the Marquette Golden Eagles 96-70. LJ Cryer had 19 points to top the scoresheet in the loss. With 16 points and six rebounds, Adam Flagler also impressed. The Bears took the last meeting between the teams 86-70 at Lucas Oil Stadium in April 2021. Jared Butler led the Bears with 22 points and seven assists. Jalen Suggs had 22 points in the loss.
The Bulldogs have been led this season by Drew Timme, who is averaging 20.0 points per game. Meanwhile, Strawther is grabbing 8.4 rebounds per game, and Nolan Hickman is dishing 3.4 assists. Cryer and Flagler have powered the Bears’ offense, averaging 17.9 and 16.9 points per game, respectively.
Flagler also has recorded 6.9 assists per game. Caleb Lohner has posted 5.0 rebounds per game. The Bears and the Bulldogs rank as two of the top scoring teams in the NCAA, ninth and 28th in points per game, respectively. Baylor is scoring 88.1 per game, while Gonzaga is averaging 83.7.
