#17 Saint Mary’s vs #1 Gonzaga – 8pm ET

For the third time this season, Saint Mary’s will play Gonzaga. This one is the biggest one of them all, however, as the winner will get an automatic bid in the NCAA tournament. Although the loser will likely end up with an at-large bid as well. The season series is tied at one between these two schools.

The Gonzaga Bulldogs are coming into the WCC finals after an 81-71 win over the San Francisco Dons in the conference semifinals. The Zags are the top-ranked team in the nation finishing the regular season with a 25-3 record. This will be the 25th consecutive season as Gonzaga is reaching the West Coast Conference finals. Junior Drew Timme once again stepped up as a leader to this team scoring 27 points in the semi-final game against the Dons. The projected top pick at the 2022 NBA Draft Chet Holmgren added 17 points for the Zags. They have played Saint Mary’s 109 times so far and won 77 of those games.

The Saint Mary’s Gaels finished the season in second place in WCC with a 25-6 record. They are coming into the conference finals after a tough 75-72 win against Santa Clara. It was a tight game until the very end as Logan Johnson hit two key free throws with 3.2 seconds to go to seal the deal for the Gaels. Tommy Kuhse led the Gaels with 27 points. Saint Mary’s defeated Gonzaga in the last game of the regular season by 67-57 which proved that they can be competitive but with the conference championship on the line, the Zags will take care of business in this one.

The two teams everyone expected to be here at the end are here. The Saint Mary’s Gaels and Gonzaga Bulldogs both won their semifinals games and will meet for the third time this season. This time it will be for the West Coast Conference Tournament Championship. The Saint Mary’s Gaels beat the Gonzaga Bulldogs to finish off the regular season. They come into this game with a record of 25-6 on the season. In their semifinal game they took down Santa Clara but the game was much closer than people would’ve expected as they only won 75-72.

The Gonzaga Bulldogs are coming into this one as the number one team in the nation. If they win this one they will likely get the number one overall seed in the NCAA Tournament. If they lose they will still likely get a number one seed but not the top overall seed. They come into this game with a record of 25-3 on the year. As long as Drew Timme and Chet Holmgren stay healthy I think the Gonzaga Bulldogs are going to make it to the national championship game for the second straight season. As for the result of this one I have Gonzaga getting the victory over Saint Mary’s.

Well, after one blowout and one game that got closer than it should’ve been late, in the WCC semis, we get our expected two teams tangoing in the conference finals to see who gets the automatic bid out of the WCC. Gonzaga dismissed the Dons from San Francisco with ease, which was to be expected from the number one team in the country, while Saint Mary’s blew a double-digit lead against Santa Clara, before managing to hold on in the final seconds.

Now, with the Zags taking on the Gaels, we get two teams that split the season series against each other, with each winning their home matchup. This one comes on a neutral court, which leads me to believe that the Zags get the job done, due solely to the fact that they simply have the more talented roster. It’s not a huge deal either way, as I think both teams are locks for the NCAA tournament, and I think Gonzaga is a virtual lock to be a one-seed come Selection Sunday. With it being in Las Vegas, as there is no home-court advantage, either way, give me Drew Timme, Chet Holmgren, and the rest of this loaded Bulldog lineup to squeak out a tight on

Noah’s College Basketball Pick: Gonzaga
