Bethune-Cookman @ #21 Seton Hall – 12pm ET

The Seton Hall Pirates return home to host the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats this afternoon. While the Pirates have a 4-1 record and have moved into being a ranked team, the Wildcats have won just one of their six games so far this season and have been struggling.

Denis Kirilov

Bethune-Cookman struggles a lot in the opening games this season in the NCAA. They are 1-5 so far as their only win came up against Bryant over the previous weekend. For instance, the team lost to the Utah Utes by 31 points, which is definitely not a good sign for the upcoming match.

The 21st-seeded Seton Hall will look to continue with their good performance as they have already won 4 games out of 5 matches. One of these victories was against 4th-seeded Michigan who had a really bumpy start to this campaign. Seton Hall were also close to Ohio State in the next match, but fell short by just 3 points. Jared Rhoden is their best player this year averaging 18.5 points and 6.8 rebounds per game. I think the difference between both teams is visible and it’s only interesting to see whether the Seton Hall Pirates will be able to cover the spread in the end. In my opinion, this shouldn’t be a very difficult task as they have the potential to demolish their opponents by more than 30-40 points.

Denis’ College Basketball Pick: Seton Hall -31.5 (-110)

Noah Dunlap

This is just one of those matchups in the non-conference that a lot of people question why you play it. Bethune-Cookman is 1-5 on the year, and it isn’t like they’ve played a magnificent schedule by any means. They’re just a mid-major that quite simply isn’t very good, and against a ranked Seton Hall team, I think that’s going to end up being problematic.

Seton Hall comes into this one at 4-1 on the year, with a quality win over Michigan before they hit their rough stretch, and a lone loss to a decent Ohio State team by three. The Pirates showed last year there was a lot of potential on this team, and this year they’re just trying to put that potential together. Seton Hall simply has too much talent, and in this one that talent overpowers BC, giving the Pirates a huge win.

Noah’s College Basketball Pick: Seton Hall (-100000)

Tony Battalio

Bethune-Cookman comes into this game with a record of 1-5 on the year as this season has not gotten off to the start they had hoped for. Their lone win of the year came against Bryant by a score of 81-75. Since that victory they have gone on to lose their last two games to Air Force and Liberty by a margin of eight points in both games. This match up against the Seton Hall Pirates is likely to be their toughest test of the year, as they will look to close out the month of November strong with a huge upset win on the road.

The previously mentioned 21st ranked Seton Hall Pirates come into this game with a record of 4-1 on the year. They already have a huge top 10 win over Michigan back on November 16th. Their lone loss came to the Wolverines biggest rival in the very next game as they fell to Ohio State by a score of 79-76 in what was a wild ending to a great game. Seton Hall along with the entirety of the Big East conference has seemingly put the college basketball world on notice early on this year. As for the result of this game I expect the Pirates to dominate this one from the opening tip onwards en route to a huge victory.

Tony’s College Basketball Pick: Seton Hall -31.5 (-100000)

Troy @ #23 Florida – 12pm ET

The Florida Gators will put their undefeated record on the line when they host the Troy Trojans this afternoon. Florida have looked really good so far this season, beating the likes of Florida State and Ohio State already. Meanwhile, Troy are 4-2 so far this year and have already been to overtime twice, winning both of those.

Denis Kirilov

Troy is off to a great start as they are 4-2 so far this season. Duke Deen and Efe Odigie are the main reasons for their improved performance this year. On top of that, Zay Williams plays great defense which further helps the Trojans in their mission. They might have suffered two losses against Butler and North Dakota, but the victories over Jacksonville State, UT Martin, and Florida Atlantic show that they are capable of putting in a good fight against teams from even higher caliber.

Florida, on the other hand, are undefeated as they are 2nd in the Southeastern Conference with a 5-0 record. They defeated the likes of Florida State and Ohio State which further showed that the team might finish better than last season. In their previous campaign, they ended up 6th in their Conference with 14 wins and 9 losses. They eventually suffered an upset to Oral Roberts in the 1/32 finals and the Gators will look to improve that now. For me, they won’t face any difficulties in overcoming Troy’s challenge, but I still think they won’t be able to make the spread. Hence, I will go with Troy covering the spread in this game.

Denis’ College Basketball Pick: Troy +21.5 (-114)

Troy is a mid-major that actually has the potential to at least compete with some ranked teams. They enter this one with a 4-2 record, and one of their losses is to a pretty good Butler team, which is certainly excusable. This is certain to be their toughest matchup of the year so far, but I actually think they play well in this one.

For Florida, they enter ranked down at 23, and they have an undefeated record on the year at 5-0, and they’ve played decent competition as well, with Florida State and Ohio State having already been on the schedule. I think the Gators are talented enough to take care of business in this one, but I think the Trojans from Troy keep it somewhat close, covering the spread.

Noah’s College Basketball Pick: Troy +21.5 (-114)

Tony Battalio

The Troy Trojans come into this game with a record of 4-2 thus far on the year. They have picked up victories in three of their last four games, and their losses have come to Butler and North Dakota. This road game against the Gators is likely to be their toughest test of the 2021-22 season. They will need to play near perfect basketball if they want to pull off a top 25 upset in Gainesville on Sunday.

The previously mentioned Florida Gators come into this game ranked as the #23 team in the country according to the Associated Press. They have an undefeated record of 5-0, and have picked up the majority of their wins in blowout fashion. One of those wins was a massive beating of instate rival Florida State. In their last game they hit a buzzer beater three to down the Buckeyes of Ohio State. As for the result of this game, Florida should control this one from start to finish as they cruise to a sixth straight win to open the season up.

Tony’s College Basketball Pick: Florida -21.5 (-106)

Penn @ #13 Arkansas – 4pm ET

The Pennsylvania Quakers have been one of the busiest teams in the country, already suiting up for eight games so far this season, winning only three of them. They now get on the road to take on the Arkansas Razorbacks, who have won all five of their games so far this season and are heavily favored to add a sixth here.

Denis Kirilov

The Pennsylvania Quakers are off to a tough start this season as they have already lost 5 games out of 8 matches. Defeating Old Dominion and Bucknell was a good achievement, but they still suffered huge losses in games which should have been a lot closer – against Towson and George Mason. The team relies much on Jordan Dingle who performs in a “one-man show” for the Quakers. He has taken a third of the total shots and has made 42% of them.

The 13th-seeded, Arkansas, is looking to continue their winning march against Penn. They are 5-0 which puts them in 3rd place overall in the Southeastern Conference right behind Florida and LSU. The team will have a hard time trying to improve their performance from last year when they reach the Quarterfinals and were eliminated by the eventual champion, Baylor. Focusing on this year, the team have fantastic players in the likes of JD Notae and Jaylin Williams. Au’Diese Toney and Chris Lykes also show great potential and if they manage to further develop it, they can surely play in the NBA one day. For me, Arkansas is way better than Penn and they should easily cover the spread given by the bookmakers.

Denis’ College Basketball Pick: Arkansas Razorbacks-18.5 (-110)

Noah Dunlap

Penn is a sneaky team from The Ivy League that can cause some problems if you’re not careful. The Quakers from Penn are going to play a more slowed down style of basketball, with a bit more focus on the defensive side of the ball. The problem for them is that under head coach Eric Musselman, Arkansas is a more physical team than they have been in the past, and one that actually puts more focus on defense than most teams in the country seem to. And the bigger issue is that the Razorbacks are going to be playing a similar style to what Penn is certainly going to try, simply with much better athletes. Take Arkansas and the points in this one, but just barely.

Noah’s College Basketball Pick: Arkansas Razorbacks-18.5 (-110)

Tony Battalio

The Penn Quakers come into this road game with a record of 3-5 on the year as they have already played an insane amount of games in a few short weeks. They have been an up and down team all season, they started out 0-2 then won two straight before losing another 2 in a row. Now since the 2-4 start they have gone 1-1 in their last two contests. Penn played their way to a seventh place finish at the Myrtle Beach Invitational and now will likely face their toughest test of the year.

The 13th Arkansas Razorbacks come into this game with an undefeated record of 5-0 on the year. They are the winners of the Hall Of Fame Classic as they picked up wins in back to back nights over Kansas State and Cincinnati. The other three games on their schedule were Mercer, Gardner-Webb and Northern Iowa all of which were blowout wins. Now they will play a Penn team that if they overlook, will give them all they can handle and potentially upset them. However I do not expect that to happen as I look for the Arkansas Razorbacks to pick up the win in this one and extend their season opening winning streak to six games.

Tony’s College Basketball Pick: Arkansas (-4000)

#7 Villanova @ La Salle – 6pm ET

The Villanova Wildcats have had one of the toughest schedules of any time in the country, playing three top 20 teams, with two of those being top six. They did lose both of those top-six battles, however they now get on the road to take on a La Salle Explorers side that is just 2-2 so far this season and the Wildcats will be their toughest test.

Denis Kirilov

The 7th-seeded, Villanova, had one of the toughest schedules for the opening weeks in the NCAA. They had to face #2 UCLA, #17 Tennessee, and #6 Purdue. Unfortunately for the team, they have only managed to defeat Tennessee in high fashion by 18 points. They came up short against UCLA as they lost the game after overtime and the Wildcats had to go home empty-handed after their match against Purdue. Justin Moore, Collin Gillespie, Brandon Slater, and Jermaine Samuels will have to level up their game if they want to be a serious contestant this year.

La Salle, on the other hand, doesn’t have much hope for this campaign as they are playing match for match. They finished off their previous season 11th in the Atlantic 10 with 9 wins and 16 losses. The team is not looking any better this campaign as they have suffered two losses against Delaware and Sacred Heart, both after overtime. The team is quite balanced at least, but the rotation consists of just 10 players so far. For me, this will take its toll on the Explorers and they will start losing their grip. I think Villanova will take advantage of this and defeat La Salle by at least 19 points.

Denis’ College Basketball Pick: Villanova -18.5 (-110)

Noah Dunlap

In a game that isn’t necessarily a rivalry, but is certainly a game that means a lot to both schools (they’re mere miles apart in Philadelphia), Villanova is the clear favorite in this one. They haven’t had the year they were hoping for so far, as they’ve already dropped two games, but they’re still a top-10 team in my book. Their two losses came by a combined 15 points to two of the best teams in the country in Purdue and UCLA. That means they played basically even with both of those teams, and that says a lot about the talent and performance from this Wildcats squad.

For La Salle, they just don’t have the talent to compete in this one. If ‘Nova were coming in undefeated, I think you could make the argument that they could catch them by surprise, but with the more talented roster already having two losses on the year, I don’t like the chances of that happening. The Wildcats from Villanova get a huge win, in a game that quite possibly gets out of hand early.

Noah’s College Basketball Pick: Villanova-18.5 (-110)

Tony Battalio

Although it will likely change due to a rough start to the season, when the new Associated Press poll comes out the Villanova Wildcats are currently ranked 7th in the country. Villanova did not expect to be 3-2 through five games this earlier on in the season, however they are and now all the preseason hype has seemingly vanished. However do not get it twisted they are still a very good team, both of their losses have come to top teams in UCLA and Purdue by a combined 15 points. They also have a huge top 25 win against the Tennessee Volunteers on their resume, a game they won by a score of 71-53 in a game that was barely even close.

La Salle comes into this game with a .500 record of 2-2 so far this year. This is a rivalry game of sorts as both Villanova and La Salle are a part of the big 5 Philadelphia colleges, along with Temple, St. Joes, and Pennsylvania. They will need to play near perfect basketball or pick up a huge top 25 upset in this one and potentially ensure the fact that Villanova will be unranked when the first poll of December comes out. As for the result of this one, I see the Villanova Wildcats picking up a huge win to try and right the ship early on in the season.

Tony’s College Basketball Pick:  Villanova (-3500)
