The No. 24 UConn Huskies (16-6, 5-6 Big East), one of the top scoring defenses in the Big East Conference, travel to face the DePaul Blue Demons (9-13, 3-8 Big East) on Tuesday.
UConn was narrowly beaten by the Xavier Musketeers 82-79 at Harry A. Gampel Pavilion on Wednesday. Jordan Hawkins had a standout performance in defeat with 28 points.
The Huskies are sixth in the Big East Conference. DePaul dropped their third in a row in blowout fashion on Saturday at Wintrust Arena, falling to the Marquette Golden Eagles 89-69.
Umoja Gibson had 25 points in defeat, carrying the team. The Blue Demons are ninth in the Big East Conference. It’s the only meeting of the season between the teams.
UConn won both games between the teams last season, the last of which was a 75-68 triumph at Harry A. Gampel Pavilion in March 2022, their eighth straight head-to-head victory. Adama Sanogo led the Huskies with 26 points and 11 rebounds.
Javon Freeman-Liberty had 22 points in the loss.The Huskies have been led this season by Sanogo and Hawkins, who are averaging 16.9 and 14.6 points per game, respectively. Sanogo also has grabbed 7.2 rebounds per game.
Meanwhile, Tristen Newton is dishing 4.0 assists per game. Gibson and Javan Johnson have supplied much of the Blue Demons’ offense, averaging 16.2 and 14.9 points per game, respectively. Gibson also has tallied 4.9 assists per game.
Eral Penn has posted 7.4 rebounds per game. The Huskies are one of the stingiest scoring defenses in the Big East, ranking second with 64.4 points per game allowed. In the last 10 games, UConn is 4-6 with an average margin of +1.5 (74.2-72.7).
For the season, the Huskies are averaging 79.3 points per game, compared to 64.4 for opponents. DePaul has a 3-7 record over the last 10, allowing 76.1 points per game on average while scoring only 70.1 (-6.0 margin).
