The Seton Hall Pirates (16-11, 9-7 Big East) are on the road to face the No. 20 UConn Huskies (19-7, 8-7 Big East) Saturday in a Big East matchup that pits one of the conference’s most suffocating defenses against one of its top offenses. Seton Hall defeated the Georgetown Hoyas 76-68 at Prudential Center on Tuesday.
Al-Amir Dawes was a top performer with 20 points. The Pirates remain fifth in the Big East Conference. UConn lost a close one on Saturday at CHI Health Center Omaha, falling to the Creighton Bluejays 56-53. Adama Sanogo had 17 points and 10 rebounds in the losing effort to lead the team.
The Huskies are sixth in the Big East Conference. This is the final meeting of the season between the teams. After taking the only earlier season matchup against UConn 67-66 at Prudential Center on January 18, Seton Hall will be aiming for a season sweep.
Kadary Richmond led the Pirates with 18 points, while KC Ndefo added 14 points and eight rebounds. Sanogo had 16 points in the losing effort. Dawes and Tyrese Samuel, averaging 12.6 and 10.7 points per game, respectively, have led the Pirates in scoring this season. Samuel also has grabbed 5.9 rebounds per game.
Meanwhile, Richmond is dishing 4.0 assists per game. Sanogo and Jordan Hawkins have supplied much of the Huskies’ offense, averaging 17.2 and 15.0 points per game, respectively. Sanogo also has collected 7.3 rebounds per game. Tristen Newton has distributed 4.3 assists per game.
The Huskies rank as the league’s second-best team in offensive efficiency, while the Pirates are second in defensive efficiency. Seton Hall is 7-3 in the last 10 games with an average margin of +2.8 (67.2-64.4).
UConn has split the last 10 (5-5), scoring 74.8 points per game on average while allowing 69.8 (+5.0 margin). The Huskies are averaging 78.6 ppg for the full season while allowing 64.7.
