The Butler Bulldogs (11-13, 3-10 Big East) will try to slow down one of the nation’s top scoring teams when they host the No. 13 Xavier Musketeers (19-5, 11-2 Big East) on Friday. Xavier outplayed the St. John’s Red Storm 96-71 at Cintas Center on Saturday. With 21 points, Jack Nunge was the scoring leader.

Colby Jones chipped in with 19 points and eight rebounds. The Musketeers remain first in the Big East Conference. Butler lost their fifth in a row on Saturday at Fiserv Forum, falling to the Marquette Golden Eagles 60-52. Jayden Taylor had 19 points and seven rebounds in the losing effort, carrying the team.

The Bulldogs remain 10th in the Big East Conference. The teams are meeting for the only time this season. They last met in the Big East Conference Tourney first round when the Bulldogs knocked out the Musketeers with an 89-82 overtime victory at Madison Square Garden in March 2022.

Chuck Harris led the Bulldogs with 29 points, while Simas Lukosius added 27 points and seven rebounds. Nunge had 24 points and nine rebounds in the loss.

Souley Boum (16.3 ppg), Nunge (14.8), and Zach Freemantle (14.6) are leading the Musketeers in scoring this season. Nunge also has grabbed 7.9 rebounds per game, while Boum has dished 5.0 assists per game. Taylor (12.0 ppg), Lukosius (11.5), and Harris (11.2) have supplied much of the Bulldogs’ offense.
