The No. 21 Creighton Bluejays (6-3) will be looking to halt their losing skid when they host the BYU Cougars (5-5) on Saturday. BYU was beaten by the Utah Valley Wolverines 75-60 at Marriott Center on Wednesday.
Fousseyni Traore was the standout player in the losing effort with 18 points and seven rebounds. Creighton lost their third in a row on Sunday at CHI Health Center Omaha, falling to the Nebraska Cornhuskers 63-53.
Francisco Farabello led the team in scoring in the loss with 16 points. With 10 points and 10 rebounds, Ryan Kalkbrenner also impressed. It’s the only meeting of the season between the teams. Creighton triumphed in the only matchup between the teams last season 83-71 at Sanford Pentagon in December 2021. Ryan Hawkins led the Bluejays with 25 points and eight rebounds.
Alex Barcello had 28 points in the loss.The Cougars have been led this season by Rudi Williams (12.4 ppg), Gideon George (12.3), and Traore (11.8). Traore also has grabbed 8.3 rebounds per game, while Williams has dished 3.1 assists per game.
Kalkbrenner has powered the Bluejays’ offense, averaging 15.9 points per game. Baylor Scheierman is averaging 9.7 rebounds per game, and Ryan Nembhard is tallying 5.6 assists. In the last 10 games, BYU is 5-5 with an average margin of +2.0 (74.1-72.1).
