The Mississippi State Bulldogs (12-7, 1-6 SEC) are on the road to face the No. 2 Alabama Crimson Tide (17-2, 7-0 SEC) Wednesday in a game that may see lower point totals.
Mississippi State was narrowly defeated by the Florida Gators 61-59 at Humphrey Coliseum on Saturday, their fourth consecutive loss. Shakeel Moore and Tolu Smith were the scoring leaders in the losing effort with 12 points each.
The Bulldogs remain 12th in the Southeastern Conference. Alabama won their eighth in a row in impressive fashion on Saturday at Mizzou Arena, beating the Missouri Tigers 85-64. Noah Clowney had 17 points and 14 rebounds, leading the team. The Crimson Tide are first in the Southeastern Conference.
It’s the final meeting of the season between the teams. After winning the only previous season game against Mississippi State 78-67 at Humphrey Coliseum in December 2022, Alabama will be pursuing a season sweep. Mark Sears led the Crimson Tide with 20 points. D.J. Jeffries had 11 points and 15 rebounds in the loss.
The Bulldogs have been led this season by Smith, who is averaging 13.7 points per game. Smith also has grabbed 8.1 rebounds per game. Meanwhile, Dashawn Davis is dishing 2.7 assists. Brandon Miller’s 19.8 points per game have powered the Crimson Tide on offense. Miller also has averaged 8.3 rebounds per game.
Jaden Bradley has recorded 3.7 assists per game.The Bulldogs and the Crimson Tide rank as two of the strongest defenses in the nation, eighth and 16th in defensive efficiency, respectively.
